When a customer brought in their black prada trainers, he was concerned that they were beyond saving as they had been soiled really badly. The trainers were coated heavy in dried mud and soiled across the uppers with the deep black colour of the trainers fading lighter.

Designer footwear requires specialised trainer cleaning to avoid damage to the materials, stitching and not losing their shape. All of the above combined, created the perfect challenge for Thames Laundry to restore and clean these trainers.

We begin with a detailed inspection to understand what materials the trainers are made from, could be leather, mesh, canvas or plastic and then we determine the best form of cleaning and treatment for the stains and damage on the trainers.

We start with inserting shoe shapers to stabilise the structure of the trainers. We begin with carefully dry brushing the dirt to extract as much of the hardened soiling on the surface layer. This step prevents the mud from smearing deeper into the fabric once our cleaning solution is applied. We patiently worked with a firm bristle brush to lift the first layer.

Straight away you could see a difference. With the first layer of dirt being removed, it revealed the original black of the trainers and then move on to wet cleaning.

We began with a hard bristle brush on the bottom sole as that is the area that goes through the most wear and hold the toughest stains and then begin to apply a pretreatment for the dirt. We proceeded to apply our foam solution and lathered the trainers to give them a deep clean using a medium bristle brush.

With our special steam machine, we clean the full shoes including the inside to effectively get rid of any odour from wearing over time and the results speak for themselves. All the stains and damage effectively removed and revealing a good as new, deep black pair of Prada trainers.
